Flower Girl – New Release by Doxter S

Flower Girl by Doxter S

Sometimes the inspiration for a song is a person, maybe a place, or a feeling, or perhapse a period in time. Flower Girl by Doxter S is all of these. The place is introduced in the first verse: “There is a town just south of Monterey”. Look at a map of the west coast of California and take a guess. The town has a long history going back centuries. The oldest Spanish Mission in North America is there. There is an artist colony. There was a famous Mayor. The person who is the subject of the song, “Flower Girl”, has come to this town from far away. Her mind is always far away as well. She may be a person born of a different era with different sensibilities. We learn that “Flower Girl” is “Stuck in a ripple of time” in pursuit of a lover.

There are many references to the ocean, ocean life (Sea Otters – who notoriously mate for life), and sailors (who notoriously don’t).
There are sailors out on the bay. A sailor wanders by the Flower Shop where she works. We just don’t know that “Flower Girl” is interested in a sailor. “Flower Girl” wants to be with someone who left her behind. “Flower Girl” is musically inclined, as she is depicted “gently strumming her guitar” while she sings to an unidentified man. “Flower Girl” is praying as the Mission Bell tolls when the love of her life finally appears. Suddenly we are taken back in time; as if only a return to this earlier historical period can resolve “Flower Girl’s” longing and desires. The Sea Otters swim an play.
Flower Girl was written by Doxter S, sung by a female lead, and was produced at Crimson Studios in McLean, Virginia in 2017.

Merry Christmas All Around the World by Doxter S

Merry Christmas All Around the World by Doxter S

Christmas songs try to incorporate the spirit of the holiday. Many traditional songs are instrumentals.
Those with lyrics have been translated from the original language. They are recognizable and familiar.
Most popular Christmas songs in the United States are sung in English. People learn to sing them.
Merry Christmas All Around the World, by Doxter S, is sung in 25 different languages.
Doxter S wrote and recorded a version of this song in 2012 on a dare from one of his fans.
It took another 5 years to find someone else who could learn to sing this song properly.
This is supposed to be a children’s Christmas song. The lead and backing singers are a little bit older.
They share the same vocal range as many children, and often record voice-overs for children’s cartoons.
They probably don’t sound like children, but they can sing “Merry Christmas” in 25 different languages.
I have listed below for review the spelling in english of each “Merry Christmas” greeting along with some helpful pronunciation guidance:
  • English Merry Christmas
  • French Joyeux Noël
  • German Fröhliche Weihnachten (Fro leekhe Vine nachten)

  • Hungarian Boldog Karácsonyt (bowldug korátchoint)

Great Music Needs Great Inspiration

Great Music Needs Great Inspiration

(not so much the human sacrifice)

Doxter S writes: Great music needs great inspiration. When we travel to the Mayan ruins near Cancun, the most impressive structure is the temple at Chichen Itza , a massive structure shaped as a pyramid, with large external steps on all sides. It is tempting to climb the steps to get to the top and view the surrounding Yucatan jungle. However, getting back down to ground level can be a problem for some, especially with fear of heights, at least without a helping hand. That may be because this was the site for a ritualistic human sacrifice. Those were the good old days. The Mayans worshipped the sun, and it was considered an honor to climb the steps of this Temple of The Sun (Temple of Doom) for a ritualistic beheading.

The location, however, does inspire the creation of great music. The entire geologic site is immense, surrounded by lush foliage, and populated by very friendly and helpful Mexicans, many of Mayan descent. There is a pulse, a heartbeat, that can be felt in this ancient place. Today, this site hosts a rock concert of sorts during the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. The local tourist organization puts on a show of Sound and Light that is both entertaining and informative. The temple is lit up with projections of images relevant to the storyline above, including the Bird-Snake God Quetzalcoatl. The music is mysterious, mythical, rhythmic, but not very memorable. It is only intended to provide background to the images. It does reinforce the belief that music is a necessary part of all peoples lives, past and present.

Doxter S thinks Chichen Itza is a great location for outdoor concerts. Plenty of space. Stadium seating. Fresh air. Just don’t drink the water.
