Flower Girl by Doxter S gets Radio Airplay

Flower Girl by Doxter S gets Radio Airplay. Sometimes the inspiration for a song is a person, maybe a place, or a feeling, or perhapse a period in time. Flower Girl by Doxter S is all of these. “Flower Girl” is musically inclined, as she is depicted “gently strumming her guitar” while she sings to an unidentified man. “Flower Girl” is praying as the Mission Bell tolls when the love of her life finally appears. Suddenly we are taken back in time; as if only a return to this earlier historical period can resolve “Flower Girl’s” longing and desires. The Sea Otters swim an play.

Canyons by Doxter S gets Airplay on WOS Radio

Canyons by Doxter S gets Airplay on WOS Radio

The canyon lands of southwestern United States may be the most beautiful part of this continent. The Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Glen Canyon are in Arizona. Bryce Canyon and Zion Canyon are in Utah. The Navajo and Hopi residents continue a tradtion of devotion and reverence to this wondrous landscape.
Canyons by Doxter S captures the spirit of the canyon lands and its people in a song based on the Native Flute. The melody uses a simple pentatonic scale in a minor key. The percussion is a Native Hand Drum. The female vocalist sings sweetly. The lyrics contrast a modern day romance with the centuries old story of the people inhabiting this spectacular place. The Hopi pray and dance for rain. Kokopelli plays his Magic Flute. The singer refers to her lover, once upon a time together hiking, rafting, and camping here. Then the flame went out. It ended much too soon.
Canyons by Doxter S is hopeful but melancholy. There is mystery, wonderment, joy, and sadness.  The song is both spiritual and uplifting. Just listen with your eyes shut and you can see Kokopelli playing to his Hoodoo audience.
WOS Radio stated that that they would play this song (Canyons) starting 03/19/2018.  Here is the link so you can listen and subscribe, Rate & Review so we can continue to build our audience in anticipation of the show featuring your song: Canyons on WOS

Some Reasons Why You Should Like Different by Doxter S

Different by Doxter S

Some Reasons Why You Should Like Different by Doxter S

There has been a buzz in the air ever since Netflix aired the first season of Th1rteen R3asons Why.
Different, by Doxter S, is a touching and sensitive ballad that gets right to the center of this problem: American teenagers are caught in the nexus between childhood and adulthood, without always having the emotional anchor needed to remain stable. The lyrics, sung by a female lead, don’t indicate the subject’s gender. This first verse clearly describes the idea of transition, starting with a birthday party. This is followed by a haunting reference to the type of detachment felt when self-importance begins to wane. “People look though you like you’re not even there, like you are lighter than air, a wisp of smoke”.
This theme of detachment is repeated throughout the song. The Chorus, also repeated throughout, paints a simple picture of an individual not fitting in: “You’re different from the luck ones. How can you stay in this place…this life?” The second verse alludes to the potential for bullying, as the subject has been keeping a private journal that has now beome public. The second verse also ends with the repeated themes of detachment noted above.
The bridge introduces several so-called nurturing and authority figures (parents and teachers), with a general perception of lacking emotional support (dominating father, detached mother, dismissive teacher). The bridge ends with the feeling that this must, in some way, undermine the subject’s personal self worth. The final verse, the most direct and disturbing reference to teenage suicide, is immediately followed by the repeated themes of detachment and a repeat of the final chorus. The entire song is made more touching and emotional by the accompanying keyboard chord progressions and cello arpegios.

Doxter S returns to Las Vegas Strong

Doxter S returns to Las Vegas Strong

Staying at the Mandalay Bay Hotel

Doxter S was staying at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas last week. The hotel had placed a large banner over the windows on the 32nd floor that read “Las Vegas Strong”. Everything and everyone seemed the same. Saturday Night there was life on the strip an in the hotel that lasted until dawn. Sunday Morning was warm and sunny. Party goers with a hangover were laying around the Wave Pool or floating down the Lazy River. Cocktails were being served (Hair of the Dog).

Out on the Strip, across from McCarran International Airport, there is a memorial to the victims of the tragic snd senseless shooting. The entire city seems surreal. People trying to go on with their lives but not able to forget what had happened. What happened in Vegas will Stay in Vegas for s long time.

When I wrote Vegas a few years ago this tragedy was never a possibility.  Vegas was where everyone went to Party All Night and seek traditional entertainment,  Comedy acts, Magic Acts, Cirque de Soleil, Elvis Impersonators, etc. Today there is the Stratosphere Tower where you and your friends can drive a car over the edge!  There is a Shark Reef with man-eaters surrounding you in a glass tunnel. Janet Jackson was performing the night we arrived.

I do agree that Vegas is Strong and will continue to attract millions of visitors every year.  Las Vegas in Spanish means “The Meadows”, like an oasis in the desert. Today Vegas is an emotional Oasis where people can briefly forget their daily struggles from work or life in general. I just hope and pray  that Vegas will never suffer another tragedy like the one they had in 2017.

Vegas Strong!

Million by Doxter S getting Airplay and Sync Opportunity

Million by Doxter S getting Airplay and Sync Opportunity. This very upbeat and defiant song with a merengue beat was just selected for Airplay on 2NVR 105.9FM starting 10/14/2017. Million by Doxter S is also getting listed for Sync Opportunity with Perpetual Music Group. Million was also approved for the WOAFM99 Radio Show Season 11 – with National FM Distribution & Podcast.

Million by Doxter S recently received this review: “Crikey this is lively and very retro sounding, like Betty Boo but with a little more besides. The brass sounds certainly adds a sprinkle more chirpiness to what is already a jaunty confection. And what a star this singer is likely to become because that you can picture the smile she carries as the words are rattle off as the shuffling rhythms whisk us into vibrant movement.”   Anna Redding stated that that they would play this song starting 09/05/2017.

Million was composed by Doxter S (Music and Lyrics) with the original instrumental tracks recoded at Crimson Studios in McLean, VA. The vocalist is Sara from Studio Pros. The lyrics follow:

  • You say you can’t live your life without me
  • You think that love will bring you ecstasy
  • You tell me you will be faithful to me
  • For a Million Years
  • I see your eyes always gazing around
  • For some new sweet thing that you think you’ve found
  • But your selection by nature was bound
  • By a Million Years
  • I don’t believe I can hold you above
  • I’m not that person that you’re speaking of
  • But if you wait for me I’ll be your love
  • In a Million Years

Liner notes

This is an uptempo song with the most catchy tune and very clever lyrics with an unexpected hook.

Mirrors by Doxter S released on CD Baby and iTunes

Mirrors by Doxter S released on CD Baby and iTunes

Mirrors by Doxter S released on CD Baby and iTunes: Doxter S continues creating original songs in popular styles. Doxter S incorporates catchy melodies with heartfelt and moving lyrics, connecting emotionally with each new composition. Doxter S has published 44 songs on CD Baby and iTunes over the last 5 years.

“When I look into a mirror, at the face I see, is that really me?” This opening verse is an existential question about our perceptions of our own lives and our place in the universe. “Mirrors” questions who we really are, how we look at ourselves in our past lives, and how we can see ourselves in the future. It was inspired by Einstein’s genius explaining the Space-Time as a single dimension. it happens that a beam of light passes through the mirror’s glass at precisely the angle required to reach the reflection point in the shortest possible time. That must mean that, when we look into a mirror, we only see what we are supposed to see.

You can find Mirrors on Doxter-S.com, on CD Baby, and on iTunes.

Florida Gulf Hurricane: Learn to Weather the Storm

Another Florida Gulf Hurricane:

Learning to Weather the Storm

Whether or not you believe in Global Warming, you can’t ignore the latest string of hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida. I have been spending vacations in the Tampa Bay area for over 30 years. However, today I am responsibly watching Hurricane Irma unfold on The Weather Channel. Learning to weather the storm doesn’t mean you should put yourself and family in danger. I do admire the meteorologists leaning into the wind, sometimes getting knocked down. You can tell they live for these moments of intense excitement.

I wrote “Weather” without reference to actual meteorologic events, but as a metaphor for life in general. My story is all about interpersonal relationships. Our emotional connections with each other can be hot, cold, stormy, or sunny. Here are some of the lyrics:

  • It was sunny the day we met
  • Perfect weather I won’t forget
  • Not a single cloud to hide the big blue skies
  • Now it seems like it’s getting cold
  • Or it means that I’m getting old
  • And I feel I’ve gotten something in my eyes
  • Stormy weather is on the way.
  • There is nothing I can do or say
  • Don’t know whether you want to stay
  • Well, I hope the sun comes out today
  • I’m not talking about predictions
  • I’m just asking about convictions
  • Life gets foggy sometimes with the pouring rain
  • It’s not barometric pressure
  • It’s just sympathetic pleasure
  • Here’s a forecast for you “I need you again”
  • Baby we may be far away
  • From the life I promised you that day
  • Maybe you blame me anyway
  • Still, I hope the sun comes out to stay

Everyone talks about the weather but nobody can do anything about it. I thought I could at least sing about the weather.

My Music Looks Like The World’s Largest Ball of Twine

My Music Looks Like The World’s Largest Ball of Twine

I started out writing a new song and it ended up My Music Looks Like The World’s Largest Ball of Twine. I’m sure this happens to everyone. It starts with the idea of a song. I’m hearing the melody and lyrics in my head. I write them down and start playing different versions. Finally satisfied, I complete my composition in MuseScore. Then I start recording my vocals to create simple demo using the Midi tracks. When I’m satisfied this demo represents my idea, I apply for a copyright. This entire first pass takes a couple weeks.

The time comes to record some harmony and backing vocals. I add live guitar and piano. Drum tracks (for Mirrors) are automated using GarageBand Drummer. I add new Midi instruments. I record news takes for my lead vocals and additional backing vocals.

Then I arrange for a female backup vocalist to cover my backup tracks. I combine those tracks with the mix, adding effects. Then I and ask my female vocalist for another take. I  add more effects. I go track by track adjusting EQ and Compression, add spacial effects, reverb and delay. By this point my simple, elegant demo has turned into The World’s Largest Ball of Twine!

I’ll tell you why you don’t ever want to let me anywhere near the actual World’s Largest Ball of Twine. That’s because I will start removing stuff until I can see each and every distinct piece of twine. So that is exactly what I must do with my mix: remove things one by one, until I can hear each an every Guitar Strum, High-Hat, Vocal Harmony, and Piano Arpeggio. I want to feel the texture and experience the dynamic emotion of this song when I’m done.
