Vegas by Doxter S on Apple Music

Listen to Vegas by Doxter S, one of 73 original songs available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.

Doxter S was staying at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas in 2017. The hotel had placed a large banner over the windows on the 32nd floor that read “Las Vegas Strong”. Everything and everyone seemed the same. Saturday Night there was life on the strip an in the hotel that lasted until dawn. Sunday Morning was warm and sunny. Party goers with a hangover were laying around the Wave Pool or floating down the Lazy River. Cocktails were being served (Hair of the Dog).

Out on the Strip, across from McCarran International Airport, there is a memorial to the victims of the tragic snd senseless shooting. The entire city seems surreal. People trying to go on with their lives but not able to forget what had happened. What happened in Vegas will Stay in Vegas for s long time.

When I wrote Vegas a few years ago this tragedy was never a possibility.  Vegas was where everyone went to Party All Night and seek traditional entertainment,  Comedy acts, Magic Acts, Cirque de Soleil, Elvis Impersonators, etc. Today there is the Stratosphere Tower where you and your friends can drive a car over the edge!  There is a Shark Reef with man-eaters surrounding you in a glass tunnel. Janet Jackson was performing the night we arrived.

I do agree that Vegas is Strong and will continue to attract millions of visitors every year.  Las Vegas in Spanish means “The Meadows”, like an oasis in the desert. Today Vegas is an emotional Oasis where people can briefly forget their daily struggles from work or life in general. I just hope and pray  that Vegas will never suffer another tragedy like the one they had in 2017.

Vegas Strong!

Doxter S and SIRI make Beautiful Music Together

Doxter S and SIRI make Beautiful Music Together

The Real Story of SIRI by Doxter S

Doxter S was writing music for Hexagon in 2014 and came up with the idea for his song about SIRI.

Doxter S was driving to a Hexagon meeting in Virginia to discuss music for the next show: “I was using my iPhone for directions. I had other people in the car who were also using their smartphones ‘helping’ with the directions. It was disconnecting  in a humorous way. I offered to write a song for the 2015 Hexagon show about this experience and I came up with SIRI.  The director liked the song but did not see transforming SIRI into a live performance due to technical issues. The smartphone Voice of Siri was a computerized actor, and he wanted live actors.

Siri is, of course, much more famous than Doxter S. I recently had the good fortune to contact the Voice of Siri, Susan Bennett . Susan is a very talented Voice Over artist with many more offerings that most of us have experienced without making the connection. If I had known then what I know now I would have recruited Susan to perform off stage. Maybe there will be an opportunity to do something like this in the future.

Great music always needs a purpose. Writing songs for a show with a specific theme requires a special mindset. The critics are right there sitting with you at the table, drinking coffee, suggesting changes. This meeting of the minds is part of the teamwork needed to produce great music. Composing music and writing lyrics always goes smoothly working alone. Collaboration is more of a rocky road.

Ribeye by Doxter S on Apple Music

Everyday life inspires Doxter S to create catchy melodies with memorable and clever lyrics. Ribeye by Doxter S is one of 73 original songs available for streaming on Spotify and on Apple Music.

Ribeye is inspired by conversations between men and women regarding relationships and everyday life. The idea was to add new meaning and inject more fun and excitement into our lives.

Lyrics

When we married life was harried I spent weeks on the road
When we’d speak of plans to make love we used our secret code

She wants ribeye tonight and her mood must be right
I won’t put up a fight I don’t try
I’ve been feeling uptight since the dawn’s early light
Now I’m hoping we might Make Some Ribeye

When I get home When we’re alone She just touches my soul
So much better close together That’s when I lose control

Are the stars out tonight? Is the moon big and bright ?
Let’s just turn out the light I reply
When I look in her eyes there ain’t no big surprise
Just one thing satisfies Making Ribeye

We made it in the kitchen We made it on the floor
We made it in the living room as she cried out for more

When I get home When we’re alone She just gives me that Look
So much better Close together That’s when things start to Cook

There are sparks that ignite when two heart beats unite
Hold each other so tight Me Oh My
Now we’re feeling alright We’ve been cooking all night
To our hearts own delight Making Ribeye

We made it on the terrace and we caused quite a stir
I asked her how she liked it She just said Well Done Sir

When I get home When we’re alone She just gives me that Look
So much better Close together That’s when things start to Cook

There are sparks that ignite when two heart beats unite
Hold each other so tight Me Oh My
Now we’re feeling alright We’ve been cooking all night
To our hearts own delight Making Ribeye

We made it in the Hot Tub and by the Fireside
And now it’s time for making some T-bone on the side

Lyrics

No misunderstanding. Misunderstanding all the time.
What I meant to say was, I meant to say that we're just fine.
Bad communication. Must be some static on the line.

What you saying, Baby? Misunderstanding what you say.
You say you're telling me you're leaving? You got me begging you to stay.Hey I'm talking with you Baby. Then you just turn and walk away.

Where're you going, Baby? Our new relationship is fine.
You're always playing with that hound dog. You know he ain't no
friend of mine.
Hey I'm talking with you Baby. Misunderstanding all the time.

No misunderstanding. Misunderstanding all the time.
What I meant to say was, I meant to say that we're just fine.
Bad communication. Must be some static on the line.

That dog of yours is crazy. Ain't got no brains inside his head.
I say, that dog of yours is lazy. He's always sleeping in my bed.
That dog is misbehaving. Misunderstanding what I said.

Not complaining, Baby. I get upset when we're apart.
I just have this passion. I have this passion of the heart.
Just some misunderstanding. Misunderstanding from the start.

No misunderstanding. Misunderstanding all the time.
What I meant to say was, I meant to say that we're just fine.
Bad communication. Must be some static on the line.

No misunderstanding. Misunderstanding all the time.
What I meant to say was, I meant to say that we're just fine.
Bad communication. Must be some static on the line.

Lyrics

We are two of a kind Both of heart and of mind
You and I are the same There is no one to blame
When I look in your eyes Can't tell truth from the lies
Was it all just a game? I loved you just the same

I was thin, I was funny I was making lots of money And we played together passionately
You were young, you were pretty You were sexy, you were witty
And you couldn't keeps your hands off of me

I thought that I was dreaming I thought that you were scheming I thought that I would give you a shot
When the tension releases We'll be picking up the pieces Of a love that was burning too hot

You were eager to boast We were better than most
We were lovers and friends With elaborate plans
When I look in your eyes Can't tell truth from the lies
Was it all just a game? I loved you just the same

We were in a love affair Everybody turned and stared Every time that we walked into a room
We would hold each other tight We were dancing through the night At a party that was ending too soon

I thought that I was dreaming I thought that you were scheming I thought that I would give you a try
When the passion decreases We'll be picking up the pieces Of a love that has finally gone dry

You liked all of my jokes You were nice to my folks
You were kind to my friends Were they means to an end?
When I look in your eyes Can't tell truth from the lies
Was it all just a game? I loved you just the same

We were spending all my money Then something happened Honey
It must have been the look in your eye
Couldn't help but believing Now you were deceiving And interested in some other guy
This was something like treason You wouldn't give a reason I thought that you were way out of line
When the name calling ceases We'll be picking up the pieces Of a love that had run out of time

There is not much to tell I know you pretty well
You've got needs and desires I'm just not good with liars
When I look in your eyes Can't tell truth from the lies
Was it all just a game? I loved you just the same
I loved you just the same It was all just a game

Diva by Doxter S on Spotify

Diva by Doxter S on Spotify

Diva by Doxter S, an upbeat Hip Hop song, is entering new music territory. Doxter S created this original Hip Hop song, inspired by Piccolo Walzer, after making the following statement to a fellow musician: “Never argue with a Soprano”.

Piccolo Valzer (little waltz) was the original title for Giacomo Puccini’s Musetta’s Waltz. More popularly known today as Quando m’en vo’ soletta, it may be the most memorable music from Pucciin’s 19th century opera La Bohème. So what is the connection with Diva by Doxter S? It turns out the word Soprano isn’t easy to use in the lyrics. So the original inspiration was transformed into  “Never argue with a Diva”, and the theme from the operatic song is carried into the story line. The style transformed to Hip Hop.

Starting with a simple piano rendition of Piccolo Valzer, the piano is next backed by a synthesizer and the all male chorus sings Diva Aria Mine”. The verse, spoken by Doxter S, is backed by the Soprano voice haunting off stage:

Anything can happen when you’re walking with a Diva
Everybody gawking at her like the Queen of Sheba
Listen to these words of mine, I said from the beginning
Never argue with a Diva, ain’t no way of winning
Diva has a lovely voice, You think it comes from Heaven
Diva’s had a vocal coach since she was six or seven
When she sings she smiles and makes you feel you’re not a stranger
Listen to these words of mine, this Diva is no Angel

Then Diva sings her first solo:

When I’m walking alone
When everybody looks at me
They smile at me adoringly
Men are mine to command
And I have them all eating,
yes they are all eating out of my hand

Daybreak by Doxter S | Official Video Release

Daybreak by Doxter S is a madrigal style polyphonic composition with 3 vocalists accompanied by piano, cello, violin, and music box. This video captures a winter theme following the lyrics with the use of an animated keyboard, birds and notes on musical power lines, an iceskating scene, and a magical snow man. This song started out as an instrumental Rondo of 8-bars. The complex melodies seemed to lend themselves as the basis for a holiday song. I started with lyrics simply describing the familiar auditory sensation of an Ear Worm. Perhaps it’s just music playing in your head that you heard at the shopping mall. In my case the music was new and original, with yet to be defined lyrics. As I developed this theme I focused on Christmas time and holiday music. The reference to the season being winter and the presence of music playing everywhere are subtle links to Christmas time. The lyrics “Bright music Good tidings come with the Sun rising” and “Sweet voices are singing angelic with feeling” are additional ties to the traditional holiday music. Otherwise this song is without any anchors to limit it to one genre. The entire song is constructed with the familiar rondo build up of layers incorporating the instrumentals and vocals to reach a crescendo just before the outro.
