New Release | Handmaiden by Doxter S

New Release | Handmaiden by Doxter S

Crimson Studios is proud to announce a New Release | Handmaiden by Doxter S is a fanciful tale of a young romantic renaissance teenager.

This is the 70th original song written, recorded, and produced by Doxter S since 2012.

The melody is in the Key of A with Mixolydian scale. The intro and bridges are simple arpeggios of this scale. The instruments include strings, harp, hand percussion, tambourine, and triangle. The setting is in a Tudor Garden in Renaissance England.

Lyrics

Just seventeen, the handmaiden to The Queen
Was out strolling though the gardens of Tudor
Daydreaming now, she performs a royal bow
She is dancing at the ball with her suitor

She's twirling higher, higher, higher in the air
She's twirling higher, higher, higher lady fair

A lowly Squire is her object of desire, and she
Hopes that he will spy on her dancing
Handsome and bold, if the truth were to be told
He will be a knight one day, she must fancy

He'll take her higher, higher, higher in the air
He'll take her higher, higher, higher lady fair

Caught in her dreams, the young squire so it seems
Has arrived upon the scene with a stallion
A winged steed they both mount him as he kneels
All at once the three take wing like a falcon

They're soaring higher, higher, higher in the air
They're soaring higher, higher, higher Lady Fair

They're soaring higher, higher, higher than the trees
They're soaring higher, higher, higher than the clouds
They're soaring higher, higher, higher than the moon
They're soaring higher, higher, higher than the stars

Sounds like Enya, Secret Garden, Sinead O’Connor

An animated music video is currently in the works at Crimson Studios in McLean, Virginia.

Lyrics

You say you can't live your life without me
You think that love will bring you ecstasy
You tell me you will be faithful to me
For a Million Years
For a Million Years

I see your eyes always gazing around
for some new sweet thing that you think you've found
But your selection by nature was bound
By a Million Years
By a Million Years

For a Million Years For a Million Years
For a Million Years For a Million Years
For a Million Years For a Million Years

I don't believe I can hold you above
I’m not that person that you're speaking of
But if you wait for me I'll be your love
In a Million Years
In a Million Years
In a Million Years

In a Million Years In a Million Years
In a Million Years In a Million Years
In a Million Years In a Million Years
In a Million Years In a Million Years

Lyrics

 Every time I turn around
Everything’s turning upside down
Toys are flying in the air
Jackson the Dancing Bear

Jackson is a black Labrador
But he is so much more
Jackson’s a handful and a half
And he can make me laugh

Chase the Frisbee, catch the ball
Dragging his mattress down the hall
Rub my belly, scratch my ear
What an exhausting year

Jackson is such a funny pup
When is he growing up?
Tossing his toys into the air
Then there is Jackson’s hair

There’s a saying we all know
When we’ve drunk all night
Just drink the Hair of the Dog
Then you’ll feel alright

Eating breakfast all alone
I see a dog hair on my scone
In the kitchen on the stair
Everywhere there’s dog hair

We sweep the floors and vacuum too
But nothing seems to work
We give him baths and brush hit coat
Now one’s stuck in my throat

Jackson is a fur machine
Nothing ever seems to stay clean
Cleaning hair while Jackson plays
Now the maids want a raise

Just when I think the place is clean
He throws me for a loop
Ready to dine and then I find
Three dog hairs in my soup

There’s a saying we all know
When we’ve drunk all night
Just drink the Hair of the Dog
Then you’ll feel alright

Just drink the Hair of the Dog
My old friends would say
I’ve become a Dog Hair Fan
Drink them every day

New Release | Details by Doxter S

Details by Doxter S is a Jazz-Blues song in Em that tells an ages-old story about the morning after – with a hangover of epic proportion. The instrumental phrasing alternates between keyboard and guitar. The rhythm is syncopated with the bass and piano echoing each other. The outro repeats the final statement of the chorus.

Details by Doxter S is number 69 of new and original music written, recorded, and produced at Crimson Studios.

Sounds Like: John Mayall, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Van Morrison

Lyrics

You wake up from another party smoked and drank all night
Your head is spinning, ears are ringing, eyes can't stand the light
Remember music getting louder, dancing, doing lines of powder
Met a woman with her date. You got into a fight.

You had too many cocktails. You went too far. It's time for you to go.
The Devil's in the Details. She's pulling all the strings now. Don't You Know?

She may have been your soulmate, or your fantasy I guess
A curvy shape with lengthy legs wrapped in a satin dress
A pretty face with hair like flame, but you just can't recall her name
A sexy voice and flirting eyes, she made your mind a mess

You've fallen off of the rails. You won't get far. You don't know where to go.
The Devil's in the Details. She's pulling all the strings now. Don't You Know?

Instrumental

She's just another female. You've come this far. You don't have far to go.
The Devil's in the Details. She's pulling all the strings now. Don't You Know?

You try to find your pants and shoes you're in a strange hotel
Misplaced your keys and wallet and you start to feel unwell
There's water's running in the shower, shampoo scent of spice and flower
Just a silhouette of her you've fallen in her spell

Attempting to escape fails. But you're not trapped. You got nowhere to go.
The Devil's in the Details. She's pulling all the strings now. Don't You Know?

Butterfly by Doxter S started out sounding like a nursery rhyme song. The opening melody is very fanciful and sweet. The quintessential nature of the butterfly is her transformation from caterpillar during metamorphosis. This transformation needed expression in music.

The Butterfly in this song continues her transformation into a human social butterfly. The melody also changes abruptly to reflect the new and exciting life she is seeking. The backing of the violoncello transforms into an overdrive electric guitar with percussion from a full drum set.

Lyrics

I am just a butterfly Feel Free
Painted wings on purple flowers Real Me
I emerge from my cocoon Hide Me
After all the April showers Seek Me
You will see me flutter by Hold Me
In the garden there for hours Feel Me

But when I'm in the mood
I shed my innocence
I’ll dance around the moon
I only need the chance

Butterfly Butterfly trying to multiply
Everyone satisfy on my mind in my eye
I go out in the night everything is alright
As I dance in the light of the moon
I'm a Butterfly just a Butterfly
I'm a Butterfly of the Night

I'm a social butterfly Friendly
Painted lips and big eyelashes Lovely
I won't stay inside my room Lonely
Grab my phone and my Sunglasses Meet Me
Everybody passing by Find Me
Turn their heads to watch me dancing See Me

And if I'm in the mood
I lose my innocence and
Dance around the room
I go into a trance

Butterfly Gratify Please be my Alibi
Private eye Counterspy Don't need to justify
Butterfly Lullaby Mystify Me

Butterfly Butterfly trying to multiply
Everyone satisfy on my mind in my eye
I go out in the night everything is alright
As I dance in the light of the moon
I'm a Butterfly just a Butterfly
I'm a Butterfly of the Night

Butterfly Gratify Please be my Alibi
Private eye Counterspy Don't need to justify

Flower Girl by Doxter S on Spotify

Flower Girl by Doxter S on Spotify

Sometimes the inspiration for a song is a person, maybe a place, or a feeling, or perhaps a period in time. Flower Girl by Doxter S is all of these. The place is introduced in the first verse: “There is a town just south of Monterey”. Look at a map of the west coast of California and take a guess. The town has a long history going back centuries. The oldest Spanish Mission in North America is there. There is an artist colony. There was a famous Mayor. The person who is the subject of the song, “Flower Girl”, has come to this town from far away. Her mind is always far away as well. She may be a person born of a different era with different sensibilities. We learn that “Flower Girl” is “Stuck in a ripple of time” in pursuit of a lover.

There are many references to the ocean, ocean life (Sea Otters – who notoriously mate for life), and sailors (who notoriously don’t).
There are sailors out on the bay. A sailor wanders by the Flower Shop where she works. We just don’t know that “Flower Girl” is interested in a sailor. “Flower Girl” wants to be with someone who left her behind. “Flower Girl” is musically inclined, as she is depicted “gently strumming her guitar” while she sings to an unidentified man. “Flower Girl” is praying as the Mission Bell tolls when the love of her life finally appears. Suddenly we are taken back in time; as if only a return to this earlier historical period can resolve “Flower Girl’s” longing and desires. The Sea Otters swim an play.
Flower Girl was written by Doxter S, sung by a female lead, and was produced at Crimson Studios in McLean, Virginia in 2017.

New Release – Bargain by Doxter S

New Release – Bargain by Doxter S

Doxter S has 68 original songs on ReverbNation, also available on Spotify, CD Baby, iTunes, and Amazon. Doxter S published 12 new songs last year. The most recent include Bargain, Butterfly, Dancers, Form A Line, Amazing, Mountain, Everywhere, and Dorian.

Bargain

Bargain by Doxter S is a soulful and lamenting song about a love that is well beyond it’s Sell-By Date.  The theme is reflective of the happier early years of romance that give way with time to eventual resentment and the ultimate demise of the relationship.

Bargain by Doxter S refers to a Lover’s Bargain that exists in many idealized love affairs that seems to ignore the true risks and realities of life and love.

This lover’s lament is in the style of a ballad in 6/8 rhythm accompanied by piano, pedal steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, and violoncello.

Bargain by Doxter S sounds like: Willie Nelson, Dan Tyminski, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash.

Butterfly

Butterfly by Doxter S started out sounding like a nursery rhyme song. The opening melody is very fanciful and sweet. The quintessential nature of the butterfly is her transformation from caterpillar during metamorphosis. This transformation needed expression in music.

Daybreak

Daybreak by Doxter S is a madrigal style polyphonic composition with 3 vocalists accompanied by piano, cello, violin, and music box.

Dancers

Dancers by Doxter S is a dance fantasy with a latin beat. This song evokes the nightlife in Buenos Aires, Argentina and the tango dancing that originated there.

Form a Line

This upbeat song has more energy and less sweetness (than my last wedding song) and will get everyone crowding the dance floor dancing vigorously singing and shouting along with the band.

Amazing by Doxter S

Doxter S has taken inspiration from “Amazing Grace” to create a totally new and original song simply entitled “Amazing”. Sung by a choir, with instrumental accompaniment, Amazing by Doxter S picks up the tempo and lifts the spirit even higher than ever before possible.

This is an upbeat revival style song that echoes the traditional song Amazing Grace in one refrain, but has it’s own upbeat character that will bring the entire congregation to its feet.

Amazing by Doxter S uses pounding percussion, lively hand claps, a variety of spiritual verses, and unforgettable chorus sections. The church organ, electric bass, and electric piano join tied percussion section in support of the choir. The effect is, in a word, Amazing!

Mountain by Doxter S

We were seated at a local Family Restaurant in McLean, Virginia and noticed the middle of the benches were higher. We laughed because we have a similar hump in the middle of our well used bed at home. I described it as a Mountain between us and we both laughed.

I decided that was enough to write a song describing the way couples can become separated even when they are together. This is a very soulful, melancholy love song that I sing with acoustic guitar.

Everywhere by Doxter S is an upbeat, latin rhythm, inspirational song dedicated to a very happy new couple starting out their new life together with a dance and a promise to keep traveling and dancing together, leaving behind all the worries and complications of daily life.

Dorian by Doxter S is a musical interpretation of the Gothic novel by Oscar Wilde – “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. Dorian appears at various times and places chasing after a dream-like companion. The mood is mysterious, the music intoxicating, and at the end Dorian and the music fades away.

You can stream all original music by Doxter S from Crimson Studios by going to the music page. Many of these original songs are accompanied by unpublished versions with a different mix or lead singer.

Mele Kohola by Doxter S

Mele Kohola is Hawaian  for “Singing Whale”.

Each year approximately 4,500 Hawaiian Humpbacks migrate from Alaska to breed, give birth, and bask in the warmer waters of Hawaii.

Kohola begin arriving in Hawaii in November, with the peak of migration and activity occurring in February and March. Scientists speculate that the whales use ocean currents, temperature changes, acoustical cues, and the Earth’s magnetic field to find their way to Hawaii (the most remote island chain in the world).

Most whales remain in Hawaii for 6-8 weeks, with some extending their “vacation” to late May or early June. At the end of their time in Hawaii, the whales return to the food-rich waters of Alaska to feed and replenish their blubber in preparation for their next journey to Hawaii.

Mele Kohola by Doxter S has captured the spirit of freedom, adventure, and love in this singularly moving composition that brings together native rhythms, natural sounds, and the overwhelming compassion we have for our fellow inhabitants on the planet.

Doxter S continues to produce some of the most memorable and heartfelt music available, bringing together catchy melodies, pulsing rhythms, and clever yet meaningful lyrics for what is to date a collection of 67 original new songs.
