Lyrics

Do what you want to, you don’t need to know where to start
Don’t ask for directions, you just need to follow your heart
Forget what they told you, and don’t get confused by The Man
Just take my advice ’cause I know that you’re part of the plan
Everything’s easy when you get inspired, just follow your dreams no permission required
It’s your own Bizness, you just gotta do what you please
As God is my witness, your life’s gonna feel like a breeze
Just ask for forgiveness, whenever you think you might fall
Then do what you want to it’s nobody’s Bizness at all
Everyday people just trying to make their own way
Working three jobs they got too many bills left to pay
Late in the evening they gather around for a meal
Singing and dancing they’re trying to keep it all real
Everyone’s waiting for when the week ends
Working to live life with family and friends
(Chorus)
(Spoken)
The doctor, the Rabbi, the Priest and the lawyer
They give you advice but they tend to annoy you
The butcher, the baker, the lowly brick layer
We all become equal whether sooner or later
The government worker who’s taking the census
We must forgive those who may trespass against us
Do unto others as you’d have them do unto you
A Sunday School lesson I’ve found that it seems to be true
Just take it easy because at the end of the day
Your life will be judged by the things that you do and you say
Just live your life and treat others with care
Follow your heart you can live anywhere
It’s your own Bizness you just gotta do what you please
As God is my witness your life’s gonna feel like a breeze
Just ask for forgiveness whenever you stumble
Redemption is endless you must remain humble
Then do what you want to it’s nobody’s Bizness at all

Nervous by Doxter S on Spotify

Nervous by Doxter S is the newest of over 50 original songs produced at Crimson Studios. This pop style song could be sung acapella, however this production includes percussion, strings, and piano. There is asymmetry between the sequential verses and there is a substantial pre chorus. The instrumental backing for the chorus is minimal, as the lead and harmony together provide an orchestral presence. The chorus has a lively percussion accompaniment.
The story line of Nervous by Doxter S portrays a woman uncertain about her lover and their future together. She makes a reference that they are acting like spies. As is true for many other songs from Doxter S there is some gender ambiguity as we don’t really know who this song is for. For that matter, this song started out intended for a male lead, however it transformed into the female lead version presented here.

You make me nervous
You make me nervous
Keep your emotions hidden well
Under the surface
You get me rattled
Tongue tied and tattered
Then you just walk away like
None of it mattered
I feel like I’ve lost control
I’m stuck at the starting gate
Asking for help I say to myself
“Don’t hesitate, it’s getting late”
I’m running on your command
In search of some happiness
Wasting away, I spend every day
You know just which buttons to press
Life keeps on changing
My thoughts rearranging
I need some restraining
My feet on the ground
Nothing is certain
I draw back the curtain
Revealing the hurt and
The peace I have found
You keep on trying
To get me smiling
I haven’t smiled in many years
There’s no denying
You makes me crazy
Everything’s hazy
I should have left by now but
I’ve gotten lazy
I’ve lost my identity
I have nothing left to steal
Acting like spies I look in your eyes
Trying to feel anything real
I’m now starting to believe
My life is about to change
What should I do, I’m thinking it through
Things to arrange, Feeling so strange

Addicted by Doxter S
I’m addicted to you … Ooh … Ooh … Ooh
Tell me why, tell me why I can’t ignore you, be alone at night, be without you
Now I find, I must try to steal away time, always on my mind, you have made me blind
Your laugh your smile I linger a while, your lips and your voice they leave me no choice
I’m trapped by you, can’t you see … That’s what you did to me I’m addicted to
your hands your touch I need them so much I feel I can’t breathe the moment you leave I can’t wean myself from you … there’s nothing I can do
I’m addicted to you … Ooh … Ooh … Ooh
You are like, you are like that magic potion, Number Nine of Love, and emotion
Even now, I know better than to follow, I have lost my will, I must have my fill
Your clothes your smell I’m under your spell your neck and your arm I’m trapped by your charm a thigh you brush up to mine … tingles run up my spine I’m addicted to
your hands your touch I need them so much I feel I can’t breathe the moment you leave I can’t wean myself from you there’s nothing I can do
I’m addicted to you … Ooh … Ooh … Ooh
Your head your face your warming embrace your hair and your eyes so bright and so wise I feel it down to the bone … I can’t leave you alone I’m addicted to
your hands your touch I need them so much I feel I can’t breathe the moment you leave I can’t wean myself from you … there’s nothing I can do I’m addicted to you
I’m addicted to you … Ooh … Ooh … Ooh
I’m addicted to you

Flower Girl by Doxter S on Spotify

Flower Girl by Doxter S on Spotify

Sometimes the inspiration for a song is a person, maybe a place, or a feeling, or perhaps a period in time. Flower Girl by Doxter S is all of these. The place is introduced in the first verse: “There is a town just south of Monterey”. Look at a map of the west coast of California and take a guess. The town has a long history going back centuries. The oldest Spanish Mission in North America is there. There is an artist colony. There was a famous Mayor. The person who is the subject of the song, “Flower Girl”, has come to this town from far away. Her mind is always far away as well. She may be a person born of a different era with different sensibilities. We learn that “Flower Girl” is “Stuck in a ripple of time” in pursuit of a lover.

There are many references to the ocean, ocean life (Sea Otters – who notoriously mate for life), and sailors (who notoriously don’t).
There are sailors out on the bay. A sailor wanders by the Flower Shop where she works. We just don’t know that “Flower Girl” is interested in a sailor. “Flower Girl” wants to be with someone who left her behind. “Flower Girl” is musically inclined, as she is depicted “gently strumming her guitar” while she sings to an unidentified man. “Flower Girl” is praying as the Mission Bell tolls when the love of her life finally appears. Suddenly we are taken back in time; as if only a return to this earlier historical period can resolve “Flower Girl’s” longing and desires. The Sea Otters swim an play.
Flower Girl was written by Doxter S, sung by a female lead, and was produced at Crimson Studios in McLean, Virginia in 2017.

Some Reasons Why You Should Like Different by Doxter S

There has been a buzz in the air ever since Netflix aired the first season of Th1rteen R3asons Why.
Different, by Doxter S, is a touching and sensitive ballad that gets right to the center of this problem: American teenagers are caught in the nexus between childhood and adulthood, without always having the emotional anchor needed to remain stable. The lyrics, sung by a female lead, don’t indicate the subject’s gender. This first verse clearly describes the idea of transition, starting with a birthday party. This is followed by a haunting reference to the type of detachment felt when self-importance begins to wane. “People look though you like you’re not even there, like you are lighter than air, a wisp of smoke”.
This theme of detachment is repeated throughout the song. The Chorus, also repeated throughout, paints a simple picture of an individual not fitting in: “You’re different from the luck ones. How can you stay in this place…this life?” The second verse alludes to the potential for bullying, as the subject has been keeping a private journal that has now beome public. The second verse also ends with the repeated themes of detachment noted above.
The bridge introduces several so-called nurturing and authority figures (parents and teachers), with a general perception of lacking emotional support (dominating father, detached mother, dismissive teacher). The bridge ends with the feeling that this must, in some way, undermine the subject’s personal self worth. The final verse, the most direct and disturbing reference to teenage suicide, is immediately followed by the repeated themes of detachment and a repeat of the final chorus. The entire song is made more touching and emotional by the accompanying keyboard chord progressions and cello arpegios.

The canyon lands of southwestern United States may be the most beautiful part of this continent. The Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Glen Canyon are in Arizona. Bryce Canyon and Zion Canyon are in Utah. They are visited by millions or tourists from all over the world every year. The ancestors of our Native Americans arrived thousands of years earlier. The Navajo and Hopi residents continue a tradition of devotion and reverence to this wondrous landscape.
Canyons by Doxter S captures the spirit of this land and its people in a song based on the Native Flute. The melody uses a simple pentatonic scale in a minor key. The percussion is a Native Hand Drum. The female vocalist sings sweetly. The lyrics contrast a modern day romance with the centuries old story of the people inhabiting this spectacular place. The Hopi pray and dance for rain. Kokopelli plays his Magic Flute. The singer refers to her lover, once upon a time together hiking, rafting, and camping here. Then the flame went out. It ended much too soon.
Canyons by Doxter S is hopeful but melancholy. There is mystery, wonderment, joy, and sadness. The canyon lands remains as a foundation for continuation and renewal. The song is both spiritual and uplifting. Just listen with your eyes shut and you can see Kokopelli playing to his Hoodoo audience.

New Release: Heaven by Doxter S

Doxter S has been writing, recording, and producing original songs in multiple genres since 2012.  Heaven, the New Release by Doxter S, is number 54, inspired to incorporate the bluegrass sound of mandolin, banjo, and fiddle this ballad about love has lyrics that are heartfelt and includes modest harmonies for the vocals, with a very upbeat and lively drum set accompaniment.

This song can also be played on acoustic guitar to accompany any vocalist for a more traditional style ballad. The guitar should follow the fiddle between vocal phrases, and can be played finger style to capture the mandolin plucks backing the singer.

Lyrics
Waking at dawn I put a shirt on and start the day
Holding my coffee cup I try to stay awake
Five or six takes without any breaks it’s afternoon
Now the day’s work is done I’ll be home soon
Taking the train it’s starting to rain it’s getting late
Hopping into a cab I try to contemplate
How did I ever come to find love this time around
Now the day’s work is done I’m homeward bound
Darling I need you I need to to see you stay right where you are
Holding you close will wash away the scars
Starting to feel like this could be heaven right here in your arms
Feeling like I belong it feels so right here in your arms
Here in your arms
Laying in bed you cradle my head and stroke my hair
Humming a happy tune you must have heard somewhere
Late in the evening everything’s easy feeling free
Now there is only you and only me
Darling I think that you and I need to stay right where we are
Maybe our love was destined in the stars
Starting to feel like this could be heaven right here in your arms
Feeling like I belong it feels so right here in your arms
Here in your arms

Music and Medicine: Doctor of Romance by Doxter S

Doxter S has been creating original lyrical songs for over 6-years. Doxter S occasionally makes connections between music and art with medicine and health care.  Doctor of Romance by Doxter S is a love song that illuminates the benefits of the artistic side of the brain. Art and music have, throughout the centuries, often included references to doctors and medicine. One famous artist often sought out medical help.

Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh was famous for cutting off an ear and eventual suicide. During his life he sought out many doctors to relieve his suffering. Among the many remedies prescribed was FoxGlove, a plant that naturally contains Digitalis. Doctors used Digitalis for centuries to treat heart failure. We don’t know exactly why Van Gogh was prescribed this potentially toxic substance. However, there is evidence of its toxicity in his most famous painting: Starry Night (depicted on this page).

Scholars of science and art now believed the yellow used for this painting was a side effect of digitalis. Digitalis changes the artist’s color perception to see more yellow in everything. The brilliant yellows the artist used in his later paintings have been similarly attributed to this drug. No one knows for sure if these theories are correct. Among the artistically inclined in the health care fields this is a widely held belief. For a musical explanation of Vincent Van Gogh’s life, I refer you to Vincent by Don McLean, a very lovely ballad describing the emotional life of this famous artist. This was a favorite song for me.

Doctor of Romance by Doxter S is not about painting, but is about poetry and lyrics. The attraction of the artist remains very strong in our society, and point of this love song is to express that fact in the context of a romance.
