Backdoor by Doxter S on Apple Music

Backdoor by Doxter S on Apple Music

Crimson Studios is proud to announce a new release – Backdoor by Doxter S.  This song was inspired by an idea given to me by my friend Bobby McDavid who’s late father was a self-taught mandolin, guitar, and harmonica player from Gate City, Virginia, and was the founder of the Munsey Bob McDavid Bluegrass Band. He was invited  at the age of 6-years old to perform on stage at Carter’s Fold with the great Bill Monroe. The lyrics I created are loosely based on notes for a song that never had a melody. I think Bob McDavid the elder would have liked how this turned out.

Backdoor (of my Heart) by Doxter S

(Refrain 1)
You Sneaked in through the backdoor of my lost and lonely heart
And you Tried to make a big fool out of me
Broke my Family and my home, left me poor and all alone
You Left my heart in pain and misery
(Verse 1)
You took Everything I had, but that’s Not what gets me mad
First you Robbed me then you tried to ruin my name
Now I Stay here in this place, I’m ashamed to show my face
I’m a Broken man, and I have you to blame
(Refrain 1)
(Verse 2)
You broke Every vow you made, girl I Know when I’ve been played
First You Promised then you cheated and you lied
But if You try something slicker on the backdoor of my ticker
You will Find that sucker’s locked from the inside
(Refrain 2)
You Sneaked in once before using the Backdoor of my heart
But you Won’t sneak in again so easily
It’s not Like it was before ’cause it ain’t open anymore
That Backdoor’s locked and you don’t have the key
The Backdoor of My Heart Won’t Open Anymore
(Attributed to Bob McDavid)
You sneaked in the backdoor of my heart,
And made a fool of me,
You broke up my home,
And my family.
You broke every vow you made,
You cheated and you lied,
You’ll not get through that door again,
It’s locked from inside.
You took everything I had,
And tried to ruin my name,
That’s why I sit here all alone,
My head bowed down in shame.
You think you can walk right in again,
Just like you did before,
But the backdoor of my heart,
Won’t open anymore.

Stay by Doxter S on Apple Music

Stay by Doxter S on Apple Music

Stay by Doxter S is one of 73 original song written by Doxter S and produced at Crimson Studios in McLean, Virginia. Now available for streaming on Apple Music and Spotify.

This beautiful love song in G-Major can be performed by either female or male lead. A piano provides the foundation. The cello and contrabass alternate legato and pizzicato. There is syncopation between the instrument voices.

The instrumental intro, with piano, cello, and contrabass, is happy. The melody for the first and second verse, sung by Sara, is plaintive. Each verse has a tension building bridge. The second verse follows the first bridge immediately. (The original score separated them with a repeat of the intro).

The chorus is commanding, strong, with a positive vibe. The use of the B-Major in a single phrase of the chorus adds unexpected urgency to the lyrics. (This production was transposed to D-Major, so F-Major provides the tension).

The first and second chorus are separated by a vocalized version of the intro melody. This is again upbeat, happy. The second chorus has different lyrics. Following the second chorus is a repeat of the instrumental intro. The song ends with a repeat of the first chorus on a happy note.

Lyrics

You meet me at my garden gate Wonder why I was so late
Had to dry my tears Don't think that I was crying

I know some women can be strong Take whatever comes along
If I spoke like that You'd know that I was lying

We tried to talk about it Always seemed to end with shouting
We can't forgive ourselves for Indecision, always doubting

Your visit comes as no surprise I can see it in your eyes
That you just stopped by to Tell me you are leaving

I knew one day you'd want to go Knew how I would miss you so
I prepared myself but Seeing is believing

We had our share of sorrow Just like modern day romances
I see a new tomorrow I believe in second chances

Stay with me, don't leave please Stay with me
What's in your Heart is all that matters, Baby Can't you see?

Stay with me and hold me Tenderly and
I will smile and dry my tears If you just stay

I believe there are second chances You and me, Modern day romances
People can discover When they love each other

Stay with me, why don't you Stay with me
What is it Out there that would take you far away from me?

Baby we were happy Can't you see, so drop that
Bag and close the door will you just stay

Stay with me, don't leave please Stay with me, what's in your
Heart is all that matters, Baby Can't you see?

Stay with me and hold me Tenderly and
I will smile and dry my tears If you just stay

Dancers by Doxter S on Spotify

Dancers by Doxter S is a dance fantasy with a latin beat. This song evokes the nightlife in Buenos Aires, Argentina and the tango dancing that originated there.

Traveling through the mountains in western Virginia we were listening to local college radio from UVA. As we crossed to the western slope the station changed to a latin program from West Virginia entirely in Spanish. That was the inspiration for this song. Initially I wrote something more humorous with a Mariachi style. I placed that aside and reconfigured the melody into a Tango style instead. The lyrics and title are changed as well.

The singer recalls her experience as a tourist and the lasting impression that stays with her. She carries in her memory the dancers that so impressed on her the beauty and grace of the Tango. She dreams of herself becoming a tango dancer in Buenos Aires.

Dancers by Doxter S includes the traditional instruments used for the tango. The familiar Bandoneon is an essential component, along with latin percussion using conga, wood blocks, and tambourine. A cello and acoustic bass complete the instrumental support for this tango dance.

Lyrics

Instrumental Intro

It was not many years ago
I flew away to Argentina
In Buenos Aires for the Summer
I found an open air Cantina
I tasted wine and sampled Tapas
The cobbled streets were filled with couples

I watched the young tango dancers perform in the square
They moved with beauty and grace they seemed lighter than air

Instrumental Break

One special dancer caught my fancy
She was a raven haired romantic
Her flashing eyes and pouting boca
Made every movement look dramatic
Her partner held her in possession
They danced together with expression

I felt the music they danced to was played just for me
Their every movement was perfectly timed to the beat

Long Instrumental Break

I see that dancer when I'm dreaming
And how I wish that I could be her
When I was younger I was wiser
I saw that beauty was inside her
The music carries like a whisper
I dream that I am dancing with her

Next to a garden with flowers that glow in the light
I would be dancing for hours the moon shining bright

Instrumental Break

Play the music that they dance to just for me

Instrumental Break

It seems so many years ago
I flew away to Argentina
In Buenos Aires for the Summer
I found a open air Cantina
I tasted wine and sampled Tapas
The cobbled streets were filled with couples

I was a young tango dancer alone in the square
I moved with beauty and grace I was lighter than air

Instrumental

Buenos Aires Argentina in my dreams
I still dream I’m dancing tango in the night

Butterfly by Doxter S on Apple Music

Butterfly by Doxter S on Apple Music

Butterfly by Doxter S on Apple Music started out sounding like a nursery rhyme song. The opening melody is very fanciful and sweet. The quintessential nature of the butterfly is her transformation from caterpillar during metamorphosis. This transformation needed expression in music.

The Butterfly in this song continues her transformation into a human social butterfly. The melody also changes abruptly to reflect the new and exciting life she is seeking. The backing of the violoncello transforms into an overdrive electric guitar with percussion from a full drum set.

Butterfly is one of 73 original songs available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.

Lyrics

I am just a butterfly Feel Free
Painted wings on purple flowers Real Me
I emerge from my cocoon Hide Me
After all the April showers Seek Me
You will see me flutter by Hold Me
In the garden there for hours Feel Me

But when I'm in the mood
I shed my innocence
I’ll dance around the moon
I only need the chance

Butterfly Butterfly trying to multiply
Everyone satisfy on my mind in my eye
I go out in the night everything is alright
As I dance in the light of the moon
I'm a Butterfly just a Butterfly
I'm a Butterfly of the Night

I'm a social butterfly Friendly
Painted lips and big eyelashes Lovely
I won't stay inside my room Lonely
Grab my phone and my Sunglasses Meet Me
Everybody passing by Find Me
Turn their heads to watch me dancing See Me

And if I'm in the mood
I lose my innocence and
Dance around the room
I go into a trance

Butterfly Gratify Please be my Alibi
Private eye Counterspy Don't need to justify
Butterfly Lullaby Mystify Me

Butterfly Butterfly trying to multiply
Everyone satisfy on my mind in my eye
I go out in the night everything is alright
As I dance in the light of the moon
I'm a Butterfly just a Butterfly
I'm a Butterfly of the Night

Butterfly Gratify Please be my Alibi
Private eye Counterspy Don't need to justify
Butterfly Lullaby Mystify Me

I am just a butterfly Feel Free
Painted wings on purple flowers Real Me

Lyrics

You wake up from another party smoked and drank all night
Your head is spinning, ears are ringing, eyes can't stand the light
Remember music getting louder, dancing, doing lines of powder
Met a woman with her date. You got into a fight.

You had too many cocktails. You went too far. It's time for you to go.
The Devil's in the Details. She's pulling all the strings now. Don't You Know?

She may have been your soulmate, or your fantasy I guess
A curvy shape with lengthy legs wrapped in a satin dress
A pretty face with hair like flame, but you just can't recall her name
A sexy voice and flirting eyes, she made your mind a mess

You've fallen off of the rails. You won't get far. You don't know where to go.
The Devil's in the Details. She's pulling all the strings now. Don't You Know?

Instrumental

She's just another female. You've come this far. You don't have far to go.
The Devil's in the Details. She's pulling all the strings now. Don't You Know?

You try to find your pants and shoes you're in a strange hotel
Misplaced your keys and wallet and you start to feel unwell
There's water's running in the shower, shampoo scent of spice and flower
Just a silhouette of her you've fallen in her spell

Attempting to escape fails. But you're not trapped. You got nowhere to go.
The Devil's in the Details. She's pulling all the strings now. Don't You Know?

Lyrics

Just seventeen, the handmaiden to The Queen
Was out strolling though the gardens of Tudor
Daydreaming now, she performs a royal bow
She is dancing at the ball with her suitor

She's twirling higher, higher, higher in the air
She's twirling higher, higher, higher lady fair

A lowly Squire is her object of desire, and she
Hopes that he will spy on her dancing
Handsome and bold, if the truth were to be told
He will be a knight one day, she must fancy

He'll take her higher, higher, higher in the air
He'll take her higher, higher, higher lady fair

Caught in her dreams, the young squire so it seems
Has arrived upon the scene with a stallion
A winged steed they both mount him as he kneels
All at once the three take wing like a falcon

They're soaring higher, higher, higher in the air
They're soaring higher, higher, higher Lady Fair

They're soaring higher, higher, higher than the trees
They're soaring higher, higher, higher than the clouds
They're soaring higher, higher, higher than the moon
They're soaring higher, higher, higher than the stars

Masquerade by Doxter S on Spotify

Masquerade by Doxter S on Spotify

Masquerade by Doxter S is one of 73 original songs now available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music

There was never a time in recent memory when everyone we know suddenly become phantoms, as we are to them. The entire world placed on a curfew, lock down, socially distanced and emotionally isolated. The impact of recent events will far outlast the so called invisible enemy of which we have become terrified.

Masquerade by Doxter S tells the story from an all too familiar perspective. We are all trapped but desperately crave freedom. The melody is sweet but the lyrics are biting. The chord changes build up to an emotionally charged bridge and defiant chorus.

Lyrics

When the music stops
Everybody dancing please just keep your mask on
Keep your gloves on
And just walk away

I don't want to talk
Really feeling distant from the life that I knew
Feeling so blue
Like to fade away

And every time I try to remember why I just can't hold back the tears
I think about the ways in the good old days when we never had such fears

Want to go back in time, we were doing fine, want to stay outside, let me feel the sunshine

We're Masquerading We're Isolating This social distance Is so frustrating
This is Degrading Not Liberating We're imitating We're Masquerading

Going for a walk
I am feeling social and I just want to talk
Take the mask off
Leave my hideaway

When the madness stops
Everybody living please just keep your head on
Make yourself strong
Everything's Okay

Recall the good old days With our social ways When we never had these fears
Let's all go back in time We were doing fine For so many, many years

We all can stay outside In the bright sunshine We'll be feeling fine We can write the headline

Stop masquerading It was stagnating The social distance Needs some updating
It was degrading Not liberating Let's put a stop to The masquerading

I want to stay outside don't want to hide I've got my life to live
With all the people I've been missing they have so much love to give

Anticipating our liberating the social distance is quickly fading
We are parading and serenading for human comfort that we are craving

We are not waiting we are creating the social fabric of our own making
Let's stop debating procrastinating let's put a stop to the masquerading

When the music stops
Everybody dancing please just take your mask off
Take your gloves off
Live your life your way

Lyrics

Is it in your eyes ?
Is it in your smile?
In the way you kiss my lips
Lingering a while

Little things you do that connect to me
Like a little bridge no one else can see
Pulling me in close irresistibly
You are changing my sensibility

It's been going on
For a long, long time
I complete your sentences
Or do you start mine ?

We can feel our hearts beating double time
All my thoughts are yours All your thoughts are mine
We can take things fast We can take things slow
You know everything, everything I know
I know, I know, I know

I know I,
I have waited a long, long time
I was searching to see a sign
To discover a soul like mine, like mine, like mine

There is chemistry between you and me
It's the way you hold me so tenderly
I can feel your calm and serenity
Fibers of emotion connect to me
Is it sensory Or telepathy
This connection must be our destiny

I can hear a song
Playing in my mind
Then you start to sing along
Happens all the time

Little things you do that connect to me
Like a little bridge no one else can see
You have always been everywhere I go
You know everything, everything I know
I know, I know, I know

I know I,
I will always be by your side
And our conscience will be our guide
And we never will have to run, to run, to run an hide

There is chemistry between you and me
It's the way you hold me so tenderly
I can feel your calm and serenity
Fibers of emotion connect to me
Is it sensory ? Or telepathy ?
This connection must be our destiny
Must be our destiny

Better Days by Doxter S on Spotify

Better Days by Doxter S on Spotify

Better Days by Doxter S provides a musical representation of these troubled times. Better Days by Doxter S is one of 73 original songs available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.

The melody is in a minor key that adds pathos to the relevant lyrics. Despite the melancholy there is also great hope. The song begins and ends with the word “Pray”. There is hope fore redemption in this prayer. There is optimism for humanity.

Pray
At night I pray for better days
We turned around and lost our way
It's getting darker every day

The world is colder
There is no room for compromise
If we could open up our eyes
We'd see the sun about to rise

Through stormy weather
New days are dawning
We stand together
A new belonging

It won't take long
To make things right for every wrong
We must remain steadfast and strong
Before a storm there is a calm

Let's come together
We still have choices
If we sing proudly
They'll hear or voices

So let us pray
Pray for a life of better days
Days filled with love
Love and respect in every way

We must stay strong
And everything will be Okay
It won't be long
Before we see some better days

[Bridge]

When we were younger
We were much stronger
We had no hunger
Not any longer

Stand side by side
Without the prejudice and pride
We need our goals to be allied
Let's put our politics aside

We stand together
We are united
Out human spirit
Is reignited

So let us pray
Pray for a life of better days
Days filled with love
Love and respect in every way

We must stay strong
And everything will be Okay
It won't be long
Before we see some better days

So let us pray

You say you can't live your life without me
You think that love will bring you ecstasy
You tell me you will be faithful to me
For a Million Years
For a Million Years

I see your eyes always gazing around
for some new sweet thing that you think you've found
But your selection by nature was bound
By a Million Years
By a Million Years

For a Million Years For a Million Years
For a Million Years For a Million Years
For a Million Years For a Million Years

I don't believe I can hold you above
I’m not that person that you're speaking of
But if you wait for me I'll be your love
In a Million Years
In a Million Years
In a Million Years

In a Million Years In a Million Years
In a Million Years In a Million Years
